Parents frequently ask their students this question. What did you learn today? Usually the answer from the student is “Nothing”. Is the “nothing” answer really the truth -probably not! Students are learning all the time in class. Some of it is new. Some of it is review. Some of it is how to be better student. Some of it is techniques for learning.
A better approach might be to ask what did you do in your language arts class? Another leading question might be – “Did you watch any videos today?”
The point is that parents need to ask for information in many different ways. The students need to feel that it is safe to share the information they have and not feel threatened by any of the questions!
